Taking photos in Ca Mau mangrove forest

Cà Mau Photography & Vlog Guide — Best Photo Spots, Golden Hours, Outfits

Updated 14/05/2026  |  8 min read

Cà Mau is one of the most scenic and diverse destinations in Vietnam — from the deep green mangrove forests to the vast mudflats opening up to the ocean, from speedboats zooming through narrow canals to golden cajeput forests. But to capture truly stunning photos or vlog clips, you need to know these insider tips from Mr. Bi — a local guide who has led hundreds of tours and witnessed countless magical moments in this land.

1. Golden Hours for Photography in Cà Mau

Light is the most crucial factor in photography. At Cà Mau Cape, the golden hour happens twice a day:

🌅

Morning Golden Hour (6:00 AM – 8:00 AM)

The sunlight is soft, warm, and casts long shadows to the West. At the GPS 0001 landmark, the low-angle morning light from the East creates magical sunbeams filtering through the mangrove canopy. This is also when the sea reflects the sky most beautifully.

🌇

Afternoon Golden Hour (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM)

The sunset is exceptionally unique at Cà Mau Cape because you can watch the sun sink directly into the West Sea. The vibrant orange and red hues reflecting off the water create a breathtaking spectacle found nowhere else in Vietnam.

Avoid shooting between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM

The midday sun in Southern Vietnam is harsh and directly overhead, casting heavy shadows under the eyes and nose, and easily overexposing details. If you must shoot during these hours, use a white reflector to bounce light from below.

2. Top 5 Must-Visit Photo Spots

1

GPS 0001 National Landmark — A Symbol of Pride

This is the "must-have" photo for every traveler visiting Cà Mau Cape. Best angle: stand in the middle of the bridge, looking towards the landmark with the blue sea as your backdrop. Use a 16–24mm wide-angle lens (or your phone's ultra-wide mode). Avoid shooting directly into the sun; keep it at a 45-degree angle to the side.

2

The Mangrove Forest Wooden Bridge

A 1.2km wooden walkway winding through the lush mangrove forest — this is a dream path for portrait photography. Stand in the center of the bridge, looking forward with the two rows of mangroves creating a stunning leading-line perspective. Shoot in the morning for beautiful dappled light filtering through the leaves.

3

Onboard a Speedboat through Forest Canals

Sit at the front or middle of the speedboat and shoot facing backward — this is the best vlogging angle as the boat glides through narrow canals, with mangroves reflecting beautifully on the water. Mount a GoPro on the bow or hold it high for a dynamic wide-angle shot.

4

The Mudflats at Low Tide

When the tide recedes (usually 9:00–11:00 AM or 3:00–5:00 PM), the vast mudflats emerge, reflecting the sky like a giant mirror — a surreal sight. You will need boots or be ready to wade in knee-deep mud. A flat-lay or low-angle shot on the mudflats with the sky reflection makes for an incredibly artistic photo.

5

Áo Bà Ba & Nón Lá — The Ultimate Traditional Look

Wearing an "Áo Bà Ba" (traditional Southern outfit, borrowed for free at our homestay) paired with a conical hat ("Nón Lá") makes any photo at Cà Mau Cape instantly look amazing. This traditional attire adds cultural depth to your photos, making them stand out. This is why 90% of Mr. Bi's guests love wearing Áo Bà Ba for their photoshoots.

3. What to Wear

Your outfit plays a huge role in how your photos turn out, especially against the dominant green tones of Cà Mau's mangrove forests:

Best colors for Cà Mau's landscape:

  • White — stands out beautifully against the green forest, bright and fresh
  • Yellow/Orange — warm, vibrant, and looks stunning during sunset
  • Light Blue — blends naturally and harmoniously with the sky
  • Traditional Áo Bà Ba — the absolute best choice, available for free at our homestay

What to avoid:

  • All-black outfits — can cause the camera to overexpose the bright background
  • Busy patterns or complex stripes — distracts from the natural scenery
  • High heels or thin sandals — highly impractical for the local terrain
  • Shorts when entering the forest — mosquitoes and wild branches will make you regret it

4. Recommended Gear to Bring

📷
Waterproof Action Cam (GoPro/DJI Osmo Action): An absolute must-have on speedboats. Mount it on your helmet, chest, or use a handgrip. Turn on stabilization (HyperSmooth/RockSteady) for buttery-smooth footage despite the boat's bumps.
📱
A Good Smartphone: More than enough for high-quality photos using portrait and wide-angle modes. Keep it in a waterproof zip bag when riding the speedboat.
🔋
20,000mAh Power Bank: A full day of shooting and recording will drain your battery fast. Bring at least one high-capacity power bank.
🪞
Small Collapsible Reflector: Great for filling in shadows when shooting inside the forest or under the midday sun. A 30–40cm collapsible one is perfect.
🧻
Microfiber Cloth & Zip Bags: The humid forest air and water splashes from the speedboat can easily damp your gear. Always keep a dry cloth and zip bags handy.

5. Vlogging Tips on a Speedboat

Speedboats are the most exciting way to get around Cà Mau Cape, but they also present the biggest challenge for vloggers:

6. Flycams (Drones) — Are They Allowed?

This is the most common question from YouTubers and content creators booking our Cà Mau Cape Tour. The answer is: Yes, you can fly drones in certain areas, but you must obtain permission beforehand.

How to get drone permission:

  1. 1. Contact the Management Board of Cà Mau Cape National Park at least 3–5 working days before your arrival.
  2. 2. Provide required information: full name, ID/Passport, drone model, purpose of filming, and planned schedule.
  3. 3. Permitted flying zones are usually outside the strictly protected core zone of the National Park.
  4. 4. Strictly avoid flying in restricted zones — violations can result in heavy fines and equipment confiscation.
  5. 5. Mr. Bi can assist in contacting the authorities in advance for guests who need it — contact us via Zalo at 0919 244 834.

7. Post-Processing — Color Grading Cà Mau Photos

Cà Mau features a unique color palette: the deep emerald green of the mangroves, the warm gold of the sun, and the earthy brown of the mudflats. When editing, try to preserve the authentic soul of this land:

Forest Green Preset:

  • Temp: Slightly decrease (-5 to -10) for a cooler, fresher green
  • Tint: Slightly increase (+3 to +7) to enhance the foliage tones
  • HSL Green: Saturation +15, Luminance -10
  • Vignette: Slight decrease (-15) to add depth to the forest path

Golden Hour Filter:

  • Temp: Increase (+15 to +25) for a warm sunset glow
  • Highlights: Decrease (-30) to preserve sky details
  • Shadows: Increase (+20) to bring out details in dark areas
  • HSL Orange/Yellow: Saturation +20 for beautiful, warm skin tones

What gear do I need to vlog in Cà Mau?

At a minimum, you need a smartphone with a good camera (iPhone/Android from 2022 onwards), a power bank, and waterproof bags. A 20,000mAh power bank is a must since you will be outdoors all day without charging outlets.

Flying is permitted in areas outside the core zone of the National Park, but you must apply for permission 3–5 working days in advance. Mr. Bi can assist with the permit process for guests who wish to shoot aerial footage. Flying drones inside the core zone of Cà Mau Cape National Park is strictly prohibited.
