1. Becoming a Rustic Dat Mui Farmer

The morning starts by putting on comfortable, earthy brown traditional Ba Ba suits paired with iconic Southern Vietnamese checkered scarves (Khăn rằn). You will embark on a motorized boat to navigate along natural canals surrounding the homestay. Under Bì's enthusiastic guidance, you will get familiar with traditional fishing gear like crab traps (lợp), casting nets, and simple bamboo fishing rods.

The air is exceptionally fresh, filled with the hum of the boat motor splitting the river waves and cheerful laughter. Wading through the smooth alluvial mud under the mangrove roots brings an earthy, highly relaxing connection to nature.

2. The Thrill of Crab Trapping and Net Fishing

The mud crab traps are constructed from wire mesh, inside of which we place fresh fish or meat to lure the crabs. You will wade gently into the shallow mangrove canal, locate deep crab holes, and position the traps underwater. The wait is full of anticipation.

When you lift the trap out of the water and see a large Cà Mau mud crab with formidable claws scrambling inside, the feeling is pure joy. You will also learn the local technique of binding the crab securely using banana fibers or nylon string, just like a seasoned local fisherman.

3. A Rustic Kitchen Experience: Cooking by the Canal

After a productive morning, your reward is a basket of heavy mud crabs along with fresh local fish. Back at the traditional wood-fired kitchen of Bà Ngoại Homestay, you will assist in preparing a fresh lunch feast:

Enjoying a hot meal in a thatch-roofed gazebo right by the river breeze while sipping hot tea is the ultimate country relaxation.
